This house design reinterprets traditional Irish building forms to provide a contemporary yet contextual solution to building in the countryside. The plan is based on two gabled volumes, linked by a glass wall with all the primary accommodation facing south/west to the view. An organic, shell-like spine wall element scythes through this plan, creating a dynamic in the arrangement and a visual tension in the elevational composition. This wall acts as a spine, running inside to out, unifying the living, dining and kitchen areas of the house. To counterbalance this free form, a natural stone wall forms a sheltered entrance courtyard on the east of the house and continues into the hallway.
